Irvin “irv” WASHINGTON, JR.

I am Irvin "Irv" Washington, a New Orleans native and Xavier University of Louisiana alumnus with a Bachelor of Science in Art and a minor in Mass Communications. My expertise lies in documentary photography, with a keen emphasis on skateboard culture and the natural environment. In addition to photography, I am a proficient illustrator in skateboard design, utilizing a variety of techniques including wood burning, digital art, and traditional mediums to realize diverse concepts.

My artistic contributions have been recognized in several exhibitions and events, such as the 8th and 9th Annual HBCU Showcase at The Ogden Museum of Southern Art, O What A Night Silent Auction, and The Magnolia Ball Silent Auction. More recently, my work was featured in the LINKS Foundation HBCU Art Auction and the Red Bull Skate Clinic, where I engaged with notable skateboarders and industry experts to broaden my creative scope and challenge my artistic limits. Beyond capturing skateboarding through my lens for entities like Parasite DIY Skatepark and Humidity Skate Shop in New Orleans, my five-year journey as a skateboarder has enriched my participation in projects like the Vice x Dickies Documentary "Made to Last" and the Red Bull Terminal Takeover "After Hours" skate film.

“Freestyle” explores the captivating world of skateboard art using various mediums and techniques including painting, drawing, and photography. Each skateboard not only becomes a canvas but also a reflection of the unique identity of that particular skater. How you choose your outfit, style your hair, down to the shoes you choose to wear, the board you select operates in the same way becoming personalized statements, capturing the essence of individual style and self expression. Through this exploration, He aims to highlight the vast number of creative possibilities embedded in skateboard art.
